Wol Abun

A GIFT Testimony
THERE’S A REVIVAL BREAKING OUT IN SOUTH SUDAN AND FORMER STREET KIDS ARE LEADING THE CHARGE. THEY DON’T WANT TO SIT AT HOME, BUT ONLY GO OUT AND BRING IN A HARVEST OF SOULS FOR JESUS!

Led by the heart of our Father, our teams have endlessly trodden the dusty streets of South Sudan and Uganda looking for His lost children. Many of those have come into the redemptive safety of Jesus—eyes are opening, addictions are breaking, and internal heart wounds are being healed.

Recently, a group of young South Sudanese boys, hearts ablaze with a newfound love for Jesus, were leading the goats and cows to graze. As they met people on the way, they shared the gospel!

Every day they go out with great joy and expectation and return with amazing stories. One day, ten boys spoke to many people. They even led a Muslim man to Christ! He was so amazed to see kids preaching that he decided to accept Christ on the spot.

Over the next few days, they preached to many and even baptized five people in a creek where cows drink. They found an old man sitting on the ground and asked him if he knew Jesus. He replied that he knew nothing of Jesus. So they told him. He said he wanted Jesus, then he spat out the tobacco he was chewing and said he was giving it up. He then burnt the rest of his tobacco things and immediately got baptized! The boy who baptized him is called Wol.

A few months ago Wol was an infamous petrol sniffer in the market. He is related to the governor but has refused help of any kind until now. The governor was amazed that he had decided to live there and even asked him why he was now settled in the area. Wol said, “It’s because I’ve encountered Jesus!” He used to be called Wol Benzene (which literally means Wol petrol in Arabic, as he sniffed petrol every day), but now everyone calls him Wol Abun (pastor!). It’s remarkable how God is using those who were most broken and rejected by the world to now bring great glory to his name! Hallelujah!

Another day, some of the boys ran into a gang with machetes who demanded to know what they were doing. They replied that they were telling people about Jesus and asked if they knew about Him. So the gang let them speak and listened to their message and were so happy they said they’d give them money if they had any, but the boys said, “No. We’ve received this freely and we give it away for free!”

Another time the boys got bricks thrown at them, but they simply said, “God bless you”, as they ran away. These kids were notorious criminals, but the love of God has gotten a hold of them and they are taking the kingdom of God with spiritual violence and force (but physically and gently).

Our GIFT (God’s Institute for Transformation) home rescues abandoned street children. We feed and clothe them, give them a place to call home and we teach them all about Jesus! They learn that their lives matter and that God created them with a purpose and a calling.

There are so many precious street children, just like Wol who need help! They can become those sharing the Gospel on the streets of South Sudan and Uganda.

Without help from people like you, where would Wol be today? Would he still be smoking petrol, involved in petty theft, or even worse - dead from a fight? Today you can be a part! With your help, we will see so many more of these street children saved and leading their communities!

Please answer the call to help us rescue more of these children. Your sacrificial partnership today will save lives and bring more of these precious children to Jesus! From darkness into His glorious light. Your gift of $25, $50, $100, or more will help see these precious street youth rescued, learning about God, and into a place of belonging. It costs about $2,400 to support one GIFT kid for an entire year. Your gift today will help these precious children thrive.
